Louise Clarkson Whitelock (1851-1928)

Louise Clarkson Whitelock was born in Baltimore in 1851, and had published many works under the name L. Clarkson for more than twenty years before maryying lawyer and city politician George Whitelock in 1895. Whitelock was a founding member of the Woman’s Literary Club of Baltimore and active through the first decade of the twentieth century. Whitelock illustrated her books of children’s poetry with her own illustrations; she also published several volumes of short stories on more adult themes.
