Katharine H. Wrenshall Markland (c. 1880-?)
Katharine Humphreys Wrenshall spent much of her life trailing in the wake of her powerful mother, longtime Club president Letitia Yonge Wrenshall. She first appears in WLCB records in the 1904-1905 season, and served on the board from 1911-1913. She was briefly married to Fletcher Garard Markland (1901-1905) and published under her maiden name; nevertheless, Club records continued to refer to as “Mrs. Wrenshall Markland” throughout her membership. Wrenshall published writing pertaining to travel, art history, and some short fiction. She served as her mother’s assistant in her magic lantern shows, which presented colored photographic slides with lively narration to simulate the experience of travel to foreign lands and exotic locales. One newspaper described her as an “artist of ability”–and “skillful in the graceful art of fencing.”
